How it works The Smartpulse™ technology delivers a yellow light to the skin, which interacts with porphoryn, a naturally occurring substance in the skin. This creates a reaction which releases oxygen, which in turn kills the bacteria present in acne. In addition to this, the laser stimulates mediators which reduce the inflammation caused by acne, and replenishes collagen to help repair the damage caused by acne infection and improves acne scarring. As a result this revolutionary treatment has long lasting beneficial effects on acne.
How many treatments are required? For mild to moderate acne, a single treatment is sufficient to suppress acne for up to three months and possibly longer. Maintenance treatments may be required and this will depend on the individual. For severe acne more frequent treatment is recommended, typically 3 treatments one month apart. The treatment itself is very fast with a full face area treated in less than 30 minutes. Results are normally seen within two weeks with continued improvement over the following three months.
