Skin Solutions - Pigmentation
The Chromolite IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment can help to reduce pigmentation, age spots, freckles and birthmarks from only £25.
About pigmentation
Unsightly age spots are premature brown marks that appear on the backs of hands and the face. Sunburn freckles are the result of sun damage and occur on many parts of the body. Most are harmless, but all are ageing and may be unattractive. Other pigmented birthmarks are localised areas of increased pigmentation in the skin, which are present from birth.
The treatment
The Chromolite IPL is the most recently developed treatment available for removing pigmentation marks. The IPL removes the areas of excessive pigmentation leaving the texture and colour of the skin natural and unchanged. There is no line of demarcation as is often seen with harsh peeling or bleaching.
Most brown birthmarks will fade with treatment but some reoccur. Brown age spots may fade or disappear with a single treatment. This treatment will not prevent the development of new separate areas of pigmentation. Regular and careful use of sunscreen is essential if new areas are to be prevented. We recommend daily usage of a SPF30 cream.
How it works
The specially designed IPL light is absorbed only by the cells containing excessive concentrations of pigment (melanin) and destroys the pigment granules. Using special stencil guides the surrounding tissue is not affected and normal skin colour remains untouched. The light pulses produced by the IPL just feel similar to a flicking rubber band. Immediate whitening is followed within 15 minutes by redness and a darkening of the area. For 7 - 10 days the area will micro-crust and look much darker, flaking away to reveal the paler skin.
How effective is it?
Greater than 95% fading is generally achieved with age spots and sunburn freckles. Birthmarks are not as predictable and the degree of lightening may vary.
How many treatments?
Depending on the area to be treated, usually three to five treatments are required, two weeks apart. Some birthmarks may require re-treatment.
Professional products, Microdermabrasion and skin peels can supplement the Chromolite treatment if required. A full consultation and review of a pigmented area will provide a treatment plan for each individual.
